Willow City Farm raises, trains, and places Livestock Guardian Dogs with farms and homesteads that are a good fit.
Right now, while we temporarily downsize two pastures to rebuild, we have something that almost never happens here — three proven adult guardians available.
This is such a great chance for someone wanting to start with an LGD without going through the puppy and teenage stages. These dogs already know their jobs, love having livestock to protect, and are ready to go!
We’ve priced these dogs lower than their true value because of our current rebuild and temporary downsizing. Our priority is finding them the right working homes where they can continue doing what they were bred and raised to do.
Anyone familiar with Livestock Guardian Dogs knows the first two years are where the real investment happens. Time, consistency, fencing, supervision, livestock exposure, corrections, socialization, and patience all go into shaping a dependable guardian. Puppies are cute, but the puppy and teenage stages can be challenging and time-consuming. These dogs are past that stage and already have the maturity, experience, and instincts that take years to develop.
Many people try to save money by picking up an adult LGD from a shelter or from a farm wanting to “get rid of one,” but the hard truth is you often have no idea what that dog’s background is. You may not know if it has ever truly worked livestock, if it roams, chases animals, has aggression issues, poor fencing habits, or simply was never given proper training.
This is one of those very rare situations where the full background is known. These dogs were born here, raised here, worked here, and we know their personalities, strengths, habits, and experience. That kind of history and honesty is hard to find with an adult guardian dog.
Available Dogs
Yeti – Male
DOB: 5/1/2022
Breed: 100% Great Pyrenees
Status: Intact / Proven breederYeti is a big sweetheart with people and an absolute rockstar guardian. He stays close to home, doesn’t wander, and takes his job seriously. He has protected our livestock many times from coyotes, domestic dogs, and other predators.
He’ll walk on a leash happily, even though he hasn’t needed one much.
Honestly, Yeti may be one of the best guardian dogs we’ve ever had. Finding him a new place is hard for us, but he needs animals to watch over while our pasture project is going on. If someone wanted to keep him for a year and return him when we’re finished, we’d absolutely be open to chatting about that too!
Black Ice – Female
DOB: 4/16/2024
Breed: Pyrenees / Maremma cross (with 2% Anatolian)
Status: Intact / 1 litterBlack Ice is a big, sweet girl with a gentle heart. She can be a little shy at first, but once she knows you, she is incredibly loving. She has never shown aggression toward adults or children.
She has completed Embark genetic testing and is clear of all 26 major health concerns tested. Full breed panel is available.
Her one flaw? She does not enjoy car rides and may need a lift into the truck for vet visits. Once she’s in, she’s fine.
She is currently kept with electric fencing since she is not spayed. When loose, she prefers to stay close to home and usually sticks with another dog.
Freya – Female
DOB: 12/7/2024
Color: All white
Breed: 3/4 Pyrenees, 1/4 Maremma (with 1% Anatolian)
Status: Intact / Never had a litter
Freya can be a little reserved with new people, but she is incredibly sweet once she warms up. In the pasture, she’s often the first one to notice a threat and run toward it. Once backup arrives, she circles back to stay with the livestock.
She especially loves babies — goat kids, lambs, puppies, you name it.
She is currently kept with electric fencing since she is not spayed.
How Our Dogs Are Raised
All of our guardians were born here on the farm and have lived with livestock full-time since birth. They’ve been around:
- Goats
- Sheep
- Horses
- Cattle
- Alpacas
- Chickens
- Ducks
- Guineas
- Other dogs (including family pets - Great Danes AND Chihuahuas!)
- Children
Our farm is open to the public, and our own kids (ages 13, 12, and 4) are around the dogs daily, so they are very well socialized.
We’ve never had issues with lambs, goat kids, poultry, or children.
Training & Background
Our dogs know electric fencing, have decent recall for LGDs, and generally stay home well. Of course, proper fencing is always encouraged, and knowing the breed is important.
Our puppies start full-time with goats and poultry, then graduate around 5 weeks old to larger livestock like horses, cattle, hogs, and alpacas. They are raised with help from six adult guardian dogs across 75 acres.
Our working lines go back 10 generations of proven livestock guardians.
