Hog Roast, Anyone?

We’ve had quite a few requests for whole hogs for customers’ summer bbqs or family reunions. Yes, we can accommodate! Just let us know how many people you plan to feed, and we can get you the right size hog for your party! Don’t have a way to cook it? You can always rent a smoker or spit from Noonan’s. We also recommend the new craze, a caja china, (Pronounced Ka-ha Chee-na) or “roasting box.”

 

To Market, to Market...

Farmer's markets have begun! We've already began market @ the Fairgrounds on Thursdays, & our Saturday Downtown Springfield markets begin tomorrow! We are so excited to try our our new (bigger) tent with more space. This means that The Farmstand will have new hours. Thursday, The Farmstand is open 10-2 & Saturdays we will be closed UNLESS there's inclement weather - then we will not be at the downtown market and will keep The Farmstand open. WCF @ Farmer's Markets: Illinois State Fairgrounds Thursdays, 4pm - 7pm in the Shed Downtown Springfield (in front of Cafe Moxo) Saturdays, 8:00am - 12:30pm

WCF Cooked :: Farm + Chef Takeaway

Speaking of roasting a hog in a Caja China… Our June Takeaway dinner will feature a WCF hog roasted by Chef Denise Perry in, you guessed it, a caja china! This month we're paying homage to the outdoor barbecue, and we're offering everything you need you make your dinner for 4 OR 40 a success! Each item can be purchased individually, so you can mix and match different products to feed your own crowd. Willow City Farm has coordinated a butcher date set so that we'll also have fresh (never frozen) JUST cut steaks ready for you to put on the grill! Our charity this month will be the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. (As many of your know, Tara lost her father when he took his own life in 2010.) Cooked: • Slow cooked pulled pork - $20/qt • Bourbon & Bacon Baked Beans, Jalapeno Cheddar Corn Bread, & Carolina Slaw - $20/3 quarts • Veggie Kabab - $4/piece • Brioche Hamburger Buns - $5 • Bacon Jam - $5 Raw & Fresh: • 6 pack of 1/3# Dry Aged Hamburger - $13/ea • Filet Mignon OR Bacon Wrapped Filet (8oz)- $11.50 • Specialty Brats - $8/6 brats

This year we're developing an exciting partnership with Sally's Fields’ CSA. Not a Sally’s Fields CSA member? She just might have a few openings left. Check her out at sallysfields.com! (And if you aren’t a member, you can still check her out at Farmer’s market every once-in-a-while!) We'll be offering a weekly CSA box that's ordered in advance & can be picked up during Sally's pickup times. We’re working on the details & will keep you posted.
